Seed Bombers of Uttarakhand



"Vrikshabandhan Abhiyan 2023" has afooted with 'Seed Bombing" campaign in Uttarakhand. Seed Bombers of Uttarakhand depicts this unique beginning contributing towards ecology & environment.

Let us 1st get acquainted with "Vrikshabandhan Abhiyan"

 "Vrikshabandhan Abhiyan" was conceptualised by "Sainik Shiromani' Manoj Dhyani in 2009 under the joint flagship of Uttarakhand Rajya Nirman Senani Sangh (Regd.) and RTI Lok Sewa (Regd.). It is one of the biggest 'word to mouth' campaign to generate awareness for a Green Planet. Under this campaign before monsoon targets are set for the volunteers for the campaign, preparation & strategies are worked out and the plan is actualised during Sawan & Bhado, the months referred to monsoon period. And finally it culminates on the Rakshabandhan day, when thru Raksha Sutras a pledge is taken to protect trees.

Likewise after year on year campaign, the team Vrikshabandhan Abhiyan comprising volunteers has taken a challenge to plant or sow 2,00,000 seeds in the year 2023, as well.

To realise the dream & galvanise youth & folk towards the cause Uttarakhand Rajya Nirman Senani Sangh (Regd.) initiated a series of talks related to the issues. it invited people on dtd 22nd April 2023 for an exchange of ideas on the topic the Management of Himalayas. Again on 25th of May 2023 on the birth anniversary of legendary freddom fighter Sridev Suman ji the topic of talk centered on Uttarakhand cultural preservation. Quite obviously as Uttarakhand's culture deeply embraces the value of protection of ecology and environment, the talk seriously deliberated on the core issue of Uttarakhand movement i. e., Jal-Jungle-Jamin (water -forest-land). Came the inception date of Vrikshabandhan Abhiyan, the 05th of June 2023 which eventually is also the World Environment Day, the volunteers learnt the way to make 'Seed Bombs".

What is Seed Bomb

Seed Bomb is a process by which seeds of flowers, trees or plants are preserved inside an spherical mud & organic fertilizer mixture. it is prepared just before the arrival of monsoons. As spring knock, these seed bombs are thrown around barren lands, dry ponds, river banks and/or inside the forests. The idea is to initiate large scale of planting initiative to control the otherwise depleting flaura and fauna. And thus fight out the onslaught of Global Warming.

0n 18th of June 2023 team Vrikshabandhan Abhiyan headed to Kasmauli falling in Tehri Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. it comprised "Sainik Shiromani' Manoj Dhyani (now widely known & regarded as Bhakatvatsal Mukund Krishna Das), Archna Negi, Vaishnavi Sharma,  Surendra Kandari, Bobby Panwsr, Sajendra Kathait, Rabina Nailwal, Monika Chauhan, Shubham Kathait, Pravesh Nautiyal, Dinesh Bhandari, Varun Sargwan, Diya Indira Dhyani, Sanskriti and others.
The team organised a small symposium on "Seed Bomb" making and it's utility in contributing towards presrvation of ecology and environment.
